UPDATE

An El Dorado family loses their home in an early morning fire Wednesday.

The home in the 400 block of North Summit in El Dorado, Kansas was completely destroyed in the fire.

El Dorado Fire Chief Ken Nakaten says 911 dispatch received several calls around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday morning reporting heavy smoke coming from the home.

When fire crews arrived on the scene at about 2:20 a.m. they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the windows of the home.

Chief Nakaten says firefighters were not able to fight the fire from the inside safely because the floors began collapsing, causing furniture and appliance to slide into the basement. Firefighters were forced to go on the defensive.

The home belongs to a family but they were not home when the fire started.

No one was injured and no other surrounding structures were damaged by the fire.

The home is a complete loss.

Fire crews are on the scene of a house fire in El Dorado this morning.

The fire started just after 2:00 this morning in the 400 block of North Summit.
