Wichita city crews and road crews for the Kansas Department of Transportation are preparing for the winter weather which is forecasted for the KAKE viewing area.

Tom Hein, with KDOT, said crews were not able to pre-treat the roads due to rain, but crews are working to get sand, salt, and plow trucks ready for what may be busy and messy holiday travel.

"We will do what we need to in order to keep the roads clear and safe," said Hein.

Wichita city crews are already on standby and operating on around the clock 12 hour shifts.

"We have 120 workers who will work from eight to eight," said Don Craddock.

Planning for winter weather is always difficult, but transportation officials with both city and state say they have plenty of resources and are prepared for whatever mother nature brings our way.
