Sunflower Wind is suing the supplier of its wind turbine blades, alleging the blades were defective and could have caused injury.

Sunflower Wind's lawsuit claims the blades from Arlwin Manufacturing of Smith Center were severely cracked and had large pieces of fiberglass resin loose within the blades. The lawsuit claims the blades were at risk of shattering, which might have damaged property or injured people.

The blades were used in Lane and Smith counties. Jill Strnad, spokeswoman for Sunflower Wind, says the turbines were never operated because of the damaged blades.

Sunflower Wind also claimed it sold a $165,000 turbine to Arlwin, and has not been paid.

A spokesman for Arlwin Manufacturing declined to comment on the lawsuit.
