Mulvane voters will go to the polls next week to decide on a $40 million bond issue for the public schools. At stake are improvements to all existing schools, a brand new primary school, and a new football stadium and track.

The bond issue steering committee held a public meeting Wednesday night to inform people about the project and let them ask any questions they may have had.

The bond issue would also include money for an addition to the district's bus barn and a remodel of the food service building.

"There will never be a better time to take advantage of the opportunity," said School Board Member Dennis Springer. "51% state aid, very low interest rates, labor right now is very cheap. We're never going to have this opportunity again."

Jacque Farnsworth said she will likely vote for the bond issue, but wants to see some changes.

"$40 million is a lot of money and I am skeptical that they need that much," Farnsworth said. "I would like to see it pared down and the major necessities be built rather than to have everything that is listed."

The steering committee says that, if the bond issue is approved, it would cost about $8.63 per month in taxes to an owner of a $100,000 home.

The election is December 8. You can find a link to the proposal below this article.
