School doesn't begin in Wichita for four weeks, but some Cloud Elementary students are already in class. Administrators hope this "jump start" approach will help students come up with answers when the fall semester starts. " Their retention level goes down over the summer and it gives them a chance to get into the swing of things a little earlier", said Cloud principal Carla Smith.
Since the "jump start " program is a first for Wichita, the students academic performance will be watched closely throughout the year. Some students aren't upset about giving up a few weeks of summer fun. "I like school so much that I like to come to it", said Araceley Flores.
