As a little girl growing up, Catherine Carter loved life so much she always said she wanted to live to be 100-years-old some day. Sunday, she celebrated her 110th birthday.

How does it feel to exceed that wish by a full decade? "I don't think about it," Miss Carter says, "I just enjoy it."

Carter resides at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor in Emporia, Kansas. Her church, Mt Olive AME Church of Emporia, joined her to celebrate with cake, punch and music.

Carter has no living relatives but has a close friend she has known for 80 years. She was born around the same time the first tractor was invented, Hawaii became a territory of the United States, and construction began on the New York subway.
