Hundreds of Olympic hopefuls are in town, turning a competition into cold cash.

The Wichita Ice Sports Center is hosting the Midwestern Sectional Figure Skating Championships in the Air Capitol this week.

More than 200 figure skaters are in town from 33 different states. They are all competing to get to nationals.

Practice events began Tuesday and the competition ends Saturday night, meaning the skaters, their families and coaches are all spending money in Wichita.

"It's a very nice town, we went to old town, old Chicago, they have good food," said skating mom Danna Deshazer from Dallas.

The Wichita Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates the event will bring in $400,000 to $450,000 this week to the local economy.
