Prosecutors are opposing a change of venue for the trial of the man who has publicly admitted killing Dr. George Tiller to save "unborn children."

Court documents made public Friday in the case against Scott Roeder argue defense attorneys have offered no evidence to support their request for a change of venue for his Jan. 11 trial. The 51-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault in the May 31 shooting death of Tiller.

Prosecutors contend the defense has offered only unsupported factual assertions and opinions.

The defense wants a new trial location, arguing potential jurors have been subject to vast pretrial publicity.

A Dec. 22 hearing has been set on the issue.
