Wichita Business Leader Passes Away

Wichita businessman and philanthropist Willard Garvey is dead at age 81.

Garvey will be remembered for putting the Epic Center in Wichita, the tallest building in the state.

He also was credited with heading a business empire that once ranked his family among America's richest.

Garvey's interests around the world ranged from buildings to agriculture to petroleum. He was president of the Builders Corporation and Garvey Grain.

Garvey helped underwrite some of the best known institutions in the state's largest city including Friends University, Heartspring, YMCA, Presidents college and Independence School.

In 1992 his six children began taking responsibility for many of his major companies.
