Trego County Attorney Resigns

A Northwest Kansas county official resigns after just five months on the job. Trego County attorney Jill Elliot says her job demanded more time than her private practice allowed.

Her resignation will take effect on November 24th. Trego County democrats will now have to hold a convention to appoint a new county attorney.

Las Margaritas Earns MED Retails Buisiness Of The Year

A downtown Garden City restaurant earns statewide recognition. Las Margarita's on Main Street was named Kansas's Retail Business of the Year by Minority Enterprise Development (MED).

The restaurant opened in 2006 and has been a hotspot for local residents ever since. Owner David Perez was nominated by the Garden City Chamber of Commerce. It's the seventh award Garden City has received from MED.

McCain Endorses Wasinger For Congress

A congressional candidate hoping to represent Western Kansas gets a big endorsement from Senator John McCain. McCain says Rob Wasinger, a republican from Cottonwood Falls, has what it takes to lead Kansas into economic growth and prosperity.

Wasinger is one of six republicans running for the 1st Congressional District, which is being vacated by Jerry Moran. Wasinger is the former chief of staff for US Senator Sam Brownback.

Possible School Names Narrowed To Three

A Garden City committee selects three possible choices to rename the current high school. The new name will be given to the facility when it becomes a middle school in 2012.

The possibilities are Clifford R. Hope, a Garden City graduate elected into the US House of Representatives in 1926; Abe Hubert, a former teacher and principal; and Horace Good, a former superintendent. The decision now lies in the hands of the school board.
