State Climatologist Mary Knapp says a blizzard that dropped 30 inches of snow on Pratt County in March set a record for the most snow in a 24-hour period in the state's history.
Knapp says the National Climatic Data Center in Ashville, N.C. has to wrap up its verification process, but she is sure the storm will set a record.
Knapp says several factors contributed to the record-setting storm. A storm trapped Gulf of Mexico moisture right over Pratt County during relatively warm weather. The stationary storm brought in lots of moisture and the band of heavy snow was narrow. Towns close to Pratt reported only a couple of inches of snow.
