The Lyons Police Department is investigating a possible homicide Sunday. Police Chief Chris Detmer said in a statement that officers were called to the 500 block of South Reed for a break-in and a deceased person Sunday morning. Detmer said the officers found the door kicked in and the female of the residence dead, possibly due to foul play.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, who is assisting in the case, said they have been notified of a possible homicide case in Lyons, KS, that apparently took place either late Saturday or early Sunday morning. A KBI agent in Topeka says his office is familiar with the case, but would not release any other information.

Friends of the victim said she was with them at a Halloween party earlier in the evening. She left the group a little early to go home. The next thing they heard is that her estranged husband and young son had found her dead inside.

Friends employees of the Casey's General Store in Lyons tell KAKE News that the victim was an employee at the convenience store.

They said she was someone everyone in the small town knew. They said she was kind and caring, and this comes as a shock.

Friends also say they believe they know who did this to her. Police, however, will not say if a suspect has been identified.
