The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, conducted Operation "Cops on Rails" in Wichita from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. yesterday.

Deputies wrote 30 citations during the operation, 25 of which were for violating railroad crossing statuses.

The sheriff's office and Santa Fe Railroad would like to remind motorists that when a train is approaching a railroad crossing, the motorist should stop, look, listen and live.

Trains cannot stop or swerve and they always have the right-of-way.

The sheriff's department will continue to enforce these and all traffic laws for the safety of the motoring public.
