Psychologist Howard Brodsky has seen evidence of the BTK strangler firsthand. Police consulted him on the case back in the 1970's.
Brodsky says the BTK strangler is a man who relishes attention and craves power. He says, "I don't think he needs to kill, I think he needs attention. The violence was a means to the end to become important."
Brodsky says the BTK strangler is a white man who is now in his late 50's. He believes the killer has never been married and does not have any children. He is a very intellectual clever man who's kept the city guessing for so long. Brodsky says the BTK strangler is very unhappy. He kills to meet an unfulfilled need.
Brodsky says, "People who know him consider him a loner, aloof, stubborn, not an easy going guy at all."
Robert Beattie is writing a book about the mystery. He has studied the BTK strangler for years. Beattie says the way the BTK stranger works has made it hard for police to make headway on the case.
Beattie says the killer is patient and methodical. He selects his victims and stalks them. Brodsky says he takes glee in distressing the police and leaving just enough clues to cause a stir. Brodsky says, "He is definitely giving the hint he is here to shock us, to gain our attention, to make us wonder."
Brodsky says the BTK strangler will most likely try to stay in the spotlight. He says there will not be another 25 years of silence.
