The driver of a Chevy suburban was pronounced dead at the scene of a deadly accident. Two others in the same vehicle were pinned in wreckage for over an hour before being removed. They were transported in critical condition, by helicopter, to St. Francis hospital in Wichita. The victims’ names haven’t been released.

The accident happened just before 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Reno County officials were called to the accident at the US 50, K-61 junction near Pleasantview, according to Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson. A semi-truck carrying a trailer was traveling northbound on K-61 when it hit the passenger side of the suburban entering US 50. The impact knocked the Suburban across the southbound lane of US 50.

A passenger in the semi-truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to Hutchinson Hospital for observation. The driver of the semi-truck wasn’t injured.

The accident is under investigation by the Reno County Sheriff’s department and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
