Reports of smoke inside Whittier Elementary School in the 1400 block of Mound St. in Winfield started coming in at about 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Officials called the fire department and immediately evacuated the school. There are no reports of any injuries and it is unclear where the fire started or how much damage has been done.

Fire officials told KSOK Radio's Shawn Wheat that they were still searching for the cause of the smoke, but that it appeared to be electrical in nature. All kids were allowed back into the school to gather their belongings just before 3 p.m. Everybody was then released for the day.
