On Monday, deputies with the Reno County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single-vehicle accident on K-96.

At the scene, deputies found that the driver of a Ford Explorer had lost control of the vehicle and rolled.

The driver, 19-year-old Jose Ventura of Greenland, Arkansas, stated that he had tried to avoid a sign and lost control of the vehicle.

A passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Nicholas Meyer of Lyons, Kansas was ejected from the vehicle and had to be airlifted to St. Francis. A second passenger, 18-year-old Shurlan Mitchell from Wildomar, California received less serious injuries and was taken to Promise Regional Hospital along with the driver, who also received minor injuries.

Ventura and Mitchell were both wearing seat belts.
