A collision between a southbound SKO train and an eastbound 1 ton truck and trailer hauling hay injured the truck driver, and blocked the tracks near 700 and Gove Roads approximately 4 miles southwest of Fredonia at about 8:30 Tuesday morning.

The truck was pushed almost ½ mile down the track before the train was able to stop. The truck subsequently caught on fire and was destroyed. Wilson County Rural Fire Units 3 and 4 responded to the accident and put out the fire before it could spread to the train engine. The truck driver was transported to Fredonia Regional Hospital by ambulance.

Wilson County Emergency Manager Rick Brown also responded to the scene, and determined that no hazardous materials were involved. The train intersection near 700 and Gove Road remains closed this morning while the accident is investigated by the Wilson County Sheriff’s Dept. and Kansas State Troopers.
