(Dodge City)--A new exhibit at Boot Hill Museum adds a new experience for visitors. The First Union Church is the newest building tourists will find as they visit the popular museum.

Though the church resembles its predecessor from the 1800's, it's not meant to be a replica. Rather, the church will serve as an exhibit about the religion movement that happened in Dodge City.

The actual building has some history of its own. It was built in 1929 and served the city of Bucklin for more than 60 years. The church was moved to Dodge early this decade and has been renovated in phases throughout the years.

"We've spent a lot of years telling the history of the marshals, the gunfighters, and a lot of the wild side of Dodge City," says Karen Pankratz, curator and exhibit designer at Boot Hill Museum. "During that wild period, the ladies that came here with their husbands were religious. They wanted a way to have family and home and to start a real town."

First Union Church will have its grand opening on Sunday, July 19th, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. The public is welcome to attend, and ice cream will be served to the first 500 people.
