If you happen to be driving on US Highway 56, just outside of Ensign, you will notice something out of the ordinary. Multiple train cars have derailed off the tracks.

Late Monday afternoon, a train belonging to the Cimarron Valley Railroad Company had an accident. The train had six cars tip over causing extensive damage to both the train and the tracks.

The cars were filled with grain, and in fact, the railroad is used for nothing but grain transportation. It is not seeing much of a backlog.

Several people were at the scene today fixing the tracks, salvaging the spilled gran, and trying to figure out what exactly caused the accident, which is still unknown. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The Gray County Sheriff's Department estimates it could be a week until crews have all this cleaned up, so expect to be seeing it for a while.
