A Salina-area woman has reeled in quite a catch -- a 40-pound flathead fish from the Solomon River in central Kansas.
But it didn't take long for the soft-hearted angler to put the fish right back.
Nancy Lepping was on the Solomon Friday when she hooked the flathead. It took her 20 minutes to bring in the fish and get it to shore.
She and her husband took the fish home and weighed it — 40 pounds and more than 40 inches long.
But the couple knew they weren't going to keep it.
So on Monday they drove to the river and let it loose. Lepping says she turned down offers from people to buy the fish.
She estimates the flathead has probably lived in the river for 30 years, and she didn't want to take it away from its home.
