A house fire early Sunday morning in Kansas City, Kansas has claimed the life of a 5-year-old girl.
Firefighters were called to the in the 4600 block of Greeley Avenue about 4:15 a.m, KCTV reports. When crews arrived at the one-story home, heavy fire could be seen coming from the structure.
Crews found the girl near a back bedroom and was rushed to an area hospital where she later died. Her name has not been released.
The child's grandmother and a 7-year-old sibling made it out alive and were transported to the hospital to be checked.
A firefighter also received second-degree burns to one side of his face during rescue attempts. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Firefighters said the home is a total loss.
