Endowments have taken hits at Kansas' two largest public universities as the stock market faltered, but alumni are keeping their pocketbooks opens.
Endowment officials at the University of Kansas expect to see
about a 3 percent increase in commitments and contributions in the
fiscal year that ended June 30.
A KU Endowment Association spokeswoman says around $94 million
was raised -- the largest amount generated in the association's
117-year history.
And Kansas State University officials expect to fall slightly
short of the record $99.5 million generated through the KSU
Foundation in fiscal 2008.
Kansas State spokeswoman Julie Lea says the school is still
anticipating a top-five year in terms of total fundraising. She
called that "very heartening."
