UPDATE: June 25, 2009

The Kansas Lottery Commission granted permission Thursday to extend endorsement proposals for developers wanting to build in Sumner and Wyandotte counties.

Officials said an extention was needed because issues remain unresolved at this time.

Gaming officials set a new deadline of August 28.

The Kansas Lottery Commission is preparing to endorse proposed contracts for operating state-owned casinos in Sumner and Wyandotte counties.

The panel was set to meet Thursday, and commissioners can accept
or reject as many contracts as they wish. The endorsed contracts go
to a review board that will make the final selection.

Three applicants are seeking the contract to develop and run a
state-owned casino in Sumner County. Two others are seeking to
operate a casino in Wyandotte County.

A 2007 law provides for one state-owned casino in each of four
counties around the state. Contracts were awarded last year for the
Wyandotte and Sumner casinos, but applicants later pulled out
because of the economy.

The only casino being built is in Dodge City, scheduled to open
in November.
