The weekend storms visited many parts of Western Kansas, but perhaps no area got hit as hard as one feed lot just north of Tice.
The Haskell County Sheriff's Department says Sublette Feeders caught the brunt end of Saturday night's storm. Estimated winds of 70 miles per hour tore through the lot, knocking down telephone poles and tearing off roofs.
The same storm produced a tornado about 10 miles east, but it touched down in a wide open area where no damage occurred. Workers at Sublette Feeders say all things considered, they're pretty lucky. The destruction of most their property can be easily repaired and the cattle all seem to be doing just fine.
Fortunately the damage to the feed yard was small enough to have a minimal impact on their business.
