CLAY CENTER (AP) -- A Clay Center man was shot to death by law enforcement officers who were called to a home about a domestic dispute.

Clay County authorities say 66-year-old Ronald Hughes was shot by two officers after he pointed a gun at them early Sunday. The gun turned out to be plastic.

Clay County Attorney Rick James says officers fired at least five shots. He says Hughes and his wife had lived in the area only a short time and law enforcement officers had no previous contact with him.

The two officers were placed on leave pending an investigation.

A Kansas Bureau of Investigation agent was in Clay Center Monday to lead the investigation.
