You can eat ice cream every day, and still lose weight.
"Prevention" magazine now features ''The Amazing Ice Cream Diet'' and how it works.
There's a catch or two. This isn't about eating only ice cream all day. You can eat one cup of ice cream every day if you're a woman, and one and a half cups if you're a man, and still lose weight.
You have to stick to low-fat ice cream or yogurt. Look for 125 calories or less per half-cup serving.
Via Christi Dietitian Laura Sansgaard says, "If ice cream is one of your foods that you've excluded because you think it's one of those forbidden foods, to know you can work it in in moderation and make it part of an overall healthy eating plan I think could be appealing to some people."
The ice cream diet is all about moderation, and eating healthy meals the rest of the day. Keep your total calories at 1,500 if you're a woman or 2,000 if you're a man.
Part of the secret to the diet is calcium. Studies show it can help you lose weight because when your body doesn't get enough calcium, it triggers fat cells to store fat.
Ice cream may also help to satisfy your cravings, so you're less likely to binge. A new book with the complete plan will be out in August.
