A tragic crash on Highway 54 near Greensburg claimed the lives of two Kansas women and also killed three horses. The crash happened about four miles east of the Southern Kansas town just after 11 a.m. Thursday.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says a semi truck driven by Landen Davis, 48, blew a tire. As a result, Davis lost control of the semi, crossed into oncoming traffic, and struck a pickup truck driven by Peggy Birney, 53, of Bucklin. 32 year-old Jennifer McDonald of Wellington was riding as a passenger in the pickup. Both Birney and McDonald were killed.

The pickup truck was also pulling a stock trailer. Three horses in the trailer were also killed in the crash.

Davis, the driver of the semi, suffered potentially serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to an area hospital. His current condition is unknown.
