i have a son who has been working aircraft and be laid off at 3 different ones. Now he is laid off again and can't find a job.He has 3 months to find one or can go to jail. When he does pay the child's mother will not let him see him she lives in Oklahoma. This is not fair either. And yes he is behind some on his child support from when he did not have a job.He can't afford and attorney,so we hardly ever got to see my grandson.

RE: Topper. terminating your rights doesn't always stop child support. I terminated mine when my daughter was 2 yrs. old. After her dad when she was 5, she went to his grandparents, ran away at 15, got pregnant & ended up in Youthville for a year. They came after me to pay for her stay there for the tune of $18,000. And garnished me til just last month, it's paid off. She's now 32. I had no money for a lawyer, so they screwed me. Child support even told me that if I had a lawyer, they'd cut the amount in half. Sometimes there is no justice. To those who will comment, she was raised by them wanting for nothing.

Sorry that that has happened to you. The SRS office here in Western KS issues bench warrants for their arrest when they don't pay. They tend to follow the same policy state-wide. It's so funny now that the SRS has staff to enforce their cases there are so many dead beats being thrown in jail. But there are some guys that hide really well and they can't find them.

It took me NINE years to get SRS to help me get a child support order. My ex has quit his job TWICE in the past year to avoid his obligation. They would rather see these children on welfare than to enforce child support orders. I'm glad they're finally enforcing some rules against these deadbeats - but how fair is it that now my tax dollars are supporting them in jail, and how can they WORK if they are locked up? Seems a bit backwards to me. I'm still not receiving child support - and NO my ex was not arrested. I am no longer on welfare, but I cannot afford an attorney to enforce it on my own.

SRS can enforce it if the parent is working and if they know where they are working. My ex would quit his job whenever they started garnishing his wages. Usually he would just find some gal to live off of and you can't get anything off of someone who doesn't have a income. Nothing wrong with him other then the fact he is plain lazy! My kids are young adults now, and he still owes thousands of dollars and I know that my kids will never see it. He would never agree to let my husband, thier step-dad adopt them but he didn't want to pay the child support either. Oh yeah, he had to pay a whole whopping $200 a month! Poor guy! I'm glad they went after these parents who don't pay.

most of them owe so much that they figure there is no way to pay it back, so they don't care, jail sure don't bother them or they would of payed. so here us tax payers are going to have to pay for there stay in jail and they still aint going to get there money... they need to sign over there kids so they don't have to worry about paying anything to anybody, and stay out of jail.....

Tracy, SRS can enforce your child support case for you. If there isn't an order, they will establish one and then withhold the money from his paycheck. I know the attorney in Cowley County and their office is good. The SRS child support offices have really improved in the past few years. Just go in and ask them for an application. If he doesn't pay, they lock him up.

This is to K. It's not always dads that don't pay there child support. There are dead beat moms out there also. So, why don't you rephrase that too dead beat parents!

People like that give guys like me who never miss a payment a bad name. How can these ignorant morons live with themselves stiffing thier children?

How do I go about enforcing Child Support in Cowley County? I have talked to many people and they all say that nothing can be done in my county. My Ex has not paid Child Support for THREE YEARS now! What can be done?
