The man charged with murdering a paraplegic man takes the stand in his own defense.

Gerard Fields was found dead in his north Wichita home in July. Lynwood Baker is accused of shooting Fields during a fight over money.

Baker testified his friend of several months was depressed, and when he stopped by to say hello and pick up a gun he left at the house about a week before, Gerald Fields started talking about ending his life.

Baker says at that point, he was sitting on the bed next to Fields and Fields asked to see his gun. Baker says he and Fields were arguing because Fields kept saying he was tired of everything. Baker says he finally held the gun up, put Fields finger on the trigger and told him to pull it. Baker says it was a bluff.

The state tried to poke holes in Baker's testimony by referring to an expert's earlier testimony that it would take 12 and a half pounds of pressure to pull the trigger. Fields weighed 99 pounds, was a paraplegic with cerebral palsy, and suffered from severe muscle atrophy. Closing arguments are scheduled to begin Friday morning.
