City engineers closed 21st Street North at the Little Arkansas River (east of Amidon) this morning, due to high water having washed out the river bank at the bridge. East-west traffic will need to use 25th Street or 13th Street until 21st Street can be reopened.

A project was already underway to rehabilitate the bridge. The closure may be in effect for the remainder of that project, with an estimated completion date of late May or early June.

Conditions will be assessed further when the river level goes down, to determine what additional work needs to be done and its impact on the schedule.

Monday afternoon, Sedgwick County Emergency Dispatchers also reported Eerie closed at Morris, and 1st Street closed from Emporia to Rock Island near downtown.
