The prosecution rested its case against a Wichita woman accused in the death of her stepdaughter.
Today the defense began arguing its case, trying to prove that someone other than Cornejo caused the death of two-year-old Daytona Robertson.
Katie Cornejo was expected to take the witness stand in her murder trial today however, two doctors were called to testify.
Both doctors gave their medical opinions about Daytona Robert's injuries, the time frame surrounding those injuries and how they could have occurred.
The trial will resume on Monday, and it is possible that Cornejo could take the stand then.
The corner who examined Daytona Robertson's body testified that the child died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Dr. Deborah Johnson said in court Thursday that the 2 year-old's brain was extremely swollen and her head injury was similar to severe injuries suffered in car accidents.
Daytona's step mother Katie Cornejo is on trial, accused of murdering Daytona.
Cornejo's defense is pointing the finger to an injury at the daycare the day before Daytona became unresponsive or when she was with her biological mother the night before.
Daytona's biological mother Natasha Paul took the stand and told the jury the girl seemed clingy the night before, but she did not fall or get hurt during the two hour supervised visitation with Daytona.
Detectives testified shortly after Daytona was rushed to the hospital unresponsive, they interviewed Cornejo. She told them the girl was fine until nap time when she threw up. Cornejo said she cleaned up Daytona and put her back down for a nap. When she went to check on her she was having seizures and was unresponsive.
