They may have not been accurate about the forecasted accumulations in Wichita, but our friends just to the west probably wish the meteorologists had been wrong!!! 24 inches in Coldwater??? are you kidding me???

Just heard that some parts of kansas have gotten up to 24 inches and some could get even more. Right now, in Rose Hill we are in the heart of the heavy snow. That also came on the heels of about 16 hours of ice and sleet. Take care all!

So much for all the gloom and doom of the "blizzard"! The weather forecasters really sold this one as way more than it turned out to be here in Wichita. They always do, but this time was incredibly over the top.

It looks crazy here too. I am not from Kansas and not used to seeing THIS much snow lol I don't think I have ever seen this much in real life.I have been trying to take lots of pictures. They are working on clearing the roads right now. from my front yard you can't even tell where my yard ends and the street starts. At least we still have our electric and water though. Everyone stay safe and warm!!!!!

It honestly shows how much a company cares about their employees. It's not like business is gonna be booming today, a days pay is not worth risking a person's life to get out in this nasty weather.

dodge city streets are undrivable, even for most 4 wheel drives. at least 12-14 inches covers the residential streets with 14in-36 inches drifts. now is a good time to get out your video camera and recored all those not so smart people getting stuck. anyone should know it would be not so smart to try to go out in this, including me. make this a lazy day my friends, stress free and happy. go outside and play in the snow with you kids.

I AM a student thank you, And I do love the weather her a lot. I want to be a meterologist and I found it offending when you said he contradicted what he said before. I think it was a simple mistake...Nothing needed to be said about it but oh well. I was just stating that I love Jay and watch him everyday! But oh well you are an adult and I am a student so I will respect you and not argue. Thanks for the "Education tips" by the way. Maybe I should look into that. By the way before I read your responce I realized what I had done. Once again a simple mistake. Oh well. =]

Also, Elissa, you may find it interesting that some forcast models have parts of the area receiving 25 inches, yes that is Twenty Five inches, Two feet, One inch. I like Kake, and I have no reason to change the channel. Jay is a funny guy, I enjoy his forcasts, I didn't have ANYTHING bad to say about Jay, or his forcast. (by the way KAKE, it did start snowing in NW KS first, I give you credit :). Back to Elissa though, maybe you should use tomorrow and sign up for some adult education classes or be sure to go to school if you're still a student. Your sentence structure and wording needs a lot of work. "whats EXACTLY whats" ?? Once again, it was only a suggestion, not a complaint. You shouldn't read so much into things, there's not a need to be all dramatic. Here is the forcast model showing up to 25 inches across parts of central kansas. http://wxcaster4.com/nam/CONUS_ETA212_SFC_ACCUM-SNOWFALL_84HR.gif It's pretty simple to read Elissa, I think you can handle the color chart.

Well, Elissa, for a starter it's Mr. Sandy. I actually enjoy the weather in Kansas. All I was saying in my first post was that the Editor and Director should colaberate their stories about what Jay says its going to do and what story they post on here what the NWS was saying. They had a story on here that said 6-10 inches for the Wichita area (from the NWS), and Jay had just said that none would stick here because the ground was too warm. He kept talking about NW Kansas getting the highest ammounts of snow, and the blizzard warning was already in effect for SW KS and NW didn't have any watches or advisories. I look at the forcast models for myself and from that I can generally tell what the weather is GOING to do. Maybe next time you will read what is said and not read into it? I just think they should make their guy look good and not say the complete opposite of what the NWS says because of the fact that they issue the watches and warnings. Have a nice day in the snow, Elissa.

I hope we don't get too much snow because I live in Newton and work in Wichita. But if worst comes to worst I will get to spend then entire weekend at the hospital I work at...oh will this be a fun weekend. If it does snow and we get as much as they say, I hope everyone has fun while I'm trapped at work all weekend =] But I do love Kansas and our crazy weather. I really wouldn't have it any other way. I've traveled a lot and everyone talks about their crazy weather and then I say I'm from Kansas and that they have no idea. Our state goes from 80 degree weather to a thunderstorm to tornados to snow, oh and we even have a thunderstorm while it's snowing...got to love it. Oh and one of my 80 something year old patients told me tonight that this was the weather he grew up with. And in March it was snowing hard and he walked both ways up hill to school and home...I love my elderly patients. Everyone drive safe if it does get bad this weekend!

Well Ms. Sandy from Newton I think you need to find something better to get all upset about rather than the weather. After all you do live in KANSAS. If you don't like the weather here leave. If you don't like the meterologist change the channel and maybe find something better to d othan complain about something someone simply can't tell you whats EXACTLY whats gonna happen. Once again you do live in KANSAS.

For those of you claiming global warming, climate change or whatever term you want to use, it is not man made. The climate is always changing. Scientists have said there have been ice ages and warm times in the earth's history long before man started burning fossil fuels. We only have accurate records for the last 100 years or so. Add to that, many locations are in the cities where there is the urban heat island effect, it is impossible to draw any conclusions about climate change. We need the moisture, no matter how it comes.

Patriot, you're a fool. Global warming is a misnomer. It's actually global "climate change" which affects different parts of the world differently. For example the NE and SE US had one of the hardest winters ever recorded. Us here in the Midwest ended up with little snow. Alaska had record-breaking high temps in January (what the locals in Alaska call t-shirt weather). Europe had an extremely hard winter. Global climate change doesn't just mean we all get warmer. It means that climate patterns change. Some wetlands suffer desert-like conditions. Some deserts endure floods for unusually-heavy rains. Record cold lows in areas not used to getting them (Florida, Alabama, Georgia) and record high temps in arctic areas like Alaska. Educate yourself and stop spreading disinformation.

Your Right - KAKE, as of 6pm Goodland wasn't in a winter storm watch, winter weather advisory, snow advisory, anything of the sorts! But guess what, as of 11pm, they're still not! Even more interesting is how the NWS IN Goodland is only expecting a MAXIMUM of 6 inches of the fun white stuff. All I was saying is, is that I find it funny that you put a story on here that goes compleatly opposite of what your own meterologist has to say, your story says the NWS (and their dozens of meterologists), says Southwest KS will get the heaviest snow. (Not 18 inches in Goodland). Also, no where on here in your story did you mention the NWS also says that the heaviest ammounts will be in south central KS. I always watch KAKE, I don't watch KSN or KWCH, the only complaint I have is that on the weekends you never have new stories. Wichita NWS Office-SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 6 INCHES OR HIGHER ARE POSSIBLE BY EARLY SATURDAY MORNING...WITH THE HIGHEST SNOWFALL AMOUNTS AFFECTING MAINLY SOUTH CENTRAL KANSAS.

Global warming...LOL! It's a natural phenomenon, though if you whip enough emotion into it, it's a great vote getter.

I love how everytime the temp drops below 50 degrees people start saying "it's global warming". Do a little research before you open your mouth...it about overall changes in the weather pattern that include warming of the waters around (and melting) the polar ice caps..that causes changes in the global climate both warmer and colder. Maybe you should stick to abortion protesting and leave the weather to people that can read.

i found it quite interesting that when he showed the 18 inches of snow in goodland i knew that wasn't right. ive looked at all the models and the consensus is for it to drop south into the ok/tx panhandle and move east..while doing so i will be taking the brunt of this storm! just so you know plains is by liberal in case you were wondering! hope it dumps 2 feet of snow on me!! bring on snow!

At 6:00 p.m., the Goodland area was still not in a Winter Storm Watch. You're right, the NWS does issue the watches & warnings, and this storm will start in Northwest Kansas.

It's interesting that you post in your story that the NWS says 6-10 inches, southwest Kansas is in the winter storm watch, NOT Northwest. But your meterologist says it will start in NW Kansas and slowly move across and only briefly mentions that other forcast models take the heaviest precip. further to the south. Maybe he isn't aware that the winter storm watch doesn't include the NW part of the state where he ealier show 18 inches in goodland? Maybe your editor and producer should colaberate your storys so at least your meterologist doesn't compleatly contradict what the NWS service is saying. (they are the ones that issue thunderstorm and tornado warnings, so I tend to lean more to them when I want to know anything other than the forcast temps and a good laugh when your story goes aganist what your meterologist in charge has to say about the next storm system).

Just in case the KAKE staff wonders: Yes, I appreciate the storm warnings and the "What's Going Around" segment. Thanks for a job well done! :))

Wonder if that was enough storm to be the cause of a babyboom in about nine months. :)
bob you smell of f arts
Hey Bob, NOAA doesn't had adiquite information -.- And Check the date on the posting of the snow totals, You'll see they were as of SATURDAY at 1 PM. I think you need common knowledge of time and diffrence in area with the snow totals, Jerk :)
We were planning a trip to Wichita this wknd and were on our way on Thursday, until my brother in Park City called to let us know of the upgrade to Blizzard Warning. We turned around and headed back home, disappointed, of course. It's been nice to be able to keep up with the weather events in the Wichita area thru the internet...KAKE.com, especially. However, I would like to have seen a map of the areas' snowfall amounts. I can read the 20 different listings posted here, but I don't remember where all those places are. Maybe that's something that can be added in the future. Otherwise, keep up the good work, KAKE.com!!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!!
Won't post my earlier commen huh
wish we had 18" that would be awesome!!!
I don't know where you getr your info but here is the NOAA report on snowfall for Hutchinson and remember, we got about another 3 to 4 inches after this report: 0645 AM HEAVY SNOW HUTCHINSON 38.07N 97.91W 03/28/2009 M18.0 INCH RENO KS EMERGENCY MNGR 18 INCHES OF SNOW WITH SOME DRIFTS OF UP TO 2 FEET. Come on KAKE get it right.
At least it looks like its melting.yay.
Wow we got 28inches here. We had to have a tractor come and dig out my husband's patrol vehicle lol Then he took us around to see what the town looked like. after we had to tread through waist deep snow lol We don't have many streets open but the city guys and kdot are doing an awesome job. THANKS GUYS!!!! My son is excited cause they have a 4 day weekend lol No school monday. ;)
How about a map showing snowfall totals by location?
To Charles: you must not be in Pratt. Or Coldwater. Or Dodge City. Or Garden City. Or Great Bend. I just spent 6 HOURS digging out my driveway. I witnessed the whiteout conditions in Dodge City. For cryin' out loud: just because it wasn't in YOUR yard doesn't mean the rest of us aren't struggling to dig out from this mess. The meteorologists were DEAD ON with this monster storm. Way to go Guys!!
wow i thought it was just going to be a little snow, but i guess i was wrong along with the meterologist!!!
14 inches is more than enough here in Hutchinson. I tried to get out this morning to get a family member to work, and my 4wd got stuck in the driveway. I got it unstuck after a lot of digging and put it back in the garage.
Ms.D- Maybe you should do a spell check..lol
