The Kansas Court of Appeals has upheld the June 9, 2006, Reno County convictions of James Ryan Bloom. Bloom was a former Dodge City Police Officer, the Trego County Sheriff and an instructor at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.

A jury found Bloom guilty of one count of Rape, six counts of Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child and one count of Lewd and Lascivious Conduct. Reno County District Court Judge Richard Rome sentenced Bloom to a total of 330 months in prison.

The victim in the case was a 12-year-old girl. Efforts to hide the child victim from authorities to prevent her testimony have been widely publicized. Jessica Bloom and Barbara Johnson were convicted of felony crimes resulting from their efforts to aid James Ryan Bloom. The convictions in their cases have been upheld by the Kansas Court of Appeals in earlier released decisions.
