As of 11:30 a.m., February 20, 2009, a burn ban is in effect for all unincorporated areas of Sedgwick County, as well as all of Fire District #1, including the cities of Andale, Bel Aire, Bentley, Garden Plain, Goddard, Haysville, Kechi, Maize, Park City and Viola.

The burn ban means that no outdoor burning will be allowed, including the burning of trash in a barrel, campfires, bon fires, open brush piles, and grass and field burning.

The ban does not restrict barbecue grills or cooking within an appliance designed for such use.

Sedgwick County Fire District #1 will take violations of the burn ban seriously and fines for violation can cost up to $1,000.

The burn ban is for an indefinite period of time. Another release will be issued when the ban is lifted.
