On Friday, more than 100 Firefighters from across the state and in neighboring Oklahoma gathered in Conway Springs, Kansas for a weekend of safety training.

Friday, Saturday and the first part of Sunday were filled with classes and discussions to prepare them for what was to come Sunday afternoon.

"Today, the guys will go into this burn trailer where we will simulate what it would be like inside a burning house," said Shane Pearson with the Kansas State Firefighters Association.

The burn trailer is a 100% controlled environment. It will give the firefighters a chance to learn what it is like inside a burning home and, at the same time, will teach them how to safely and effectively extinguish the flames.

These training sessions are held by the Kansas State Fire Fighters Association throughout the year. It is not required for firefighters to attend, but it is encouraged, especially in smaller and more rural areas.
