Family and neighbors of Wichita's latest homicide victim want to know if domestic violence played a role in the killing.
KAKE News has learned police have been to the victim's home before, to investigate reports of abuse.
Late Thursday, Wichita police returned to the lake near the Newport Apartment complex. That's where the decapitated body of 43-year old Lucille Gallego was found this week. Police brought dogs to search the area near the lake, and launched a boat to search the water for clues.
Investigators also spent the day continuing the search for evidence inside the vacant Newport apartment. Late Wednesday night they spent hours in Gallegos' apartment.
Sources tell KAKE News blood was found inside Gallegos' apartment, and traces of blood were found leading to the lake. Family members tell KAKE News Gallegos lived in the apartment with her boyfriend. They call it a violent relationship.
Neighbors say they heard the couple fighting.
"A couple of times I was going by and could hear arguments from upstairs in their apartment," said Bill Watson. "Sunday, I was out walking my dog and I could hear a fight from the apartment."
KAKE News obtained court documents that show police responded to a domestic violence report at Gallegos' apartment last month. Court records also show the man Gallegos' family identifies as her boyfriend has been charged with domestic battery three times.
No victim's name was listed on the report.
Police emphasize they don't have any suspects in the case. They're still looking for evidence, including a weapon. Police say autopsy results will be released Friday.
