Two Wichita planemakers are expected to reduce their workforces, with details possibly coming out by the end of the week.

A highly placed source tells KAKE's aviation reporter Chris Frank that Hawker Beechcraft will announce layoffs later this week, possibly Thursday or Friday. A Hawker Beechcraft spokesman could not confirm the information Tuesday afternoon.

Cessna's top executive has told workers in Wichita that workforce reductions are on the way.

The e-mail from Cessna CEO Jack Pelton was sent to employees Tuesday afternoon.

In the e-mail, Pelton said Cessna is going to change its production schedule due to the deepening economic crisis. Pelton went on to say the details of the workforce reduction, including the number of jobs affected, haven't been finalized.

Cessna laid off 500 workers in November, 2008. Another 150 workers selected buyouts.
