It is harder to hire and maintain teachers at at risk schools. More effort and personal sacrifice is required by the teachers. At risk teachers spend more of their personal income ensuring students classroom supplies and project supplies are available for all students and much more effort is spent reaching and communicating with parents who may not have their phone bill paid up or even own an vehicle. Wichita School district pays teachers at at risk schools a bonus for their hard work just like these other districts do and the money is well spent.
