i haven't personally seen one but my friend in Haysville says she's seen them down in the big ditch over there. back in about '94 I knew someone who bought one and had it as a pet. It got loose and ran off. A couple months later a guy who works with my dad was approached by a tame one, while fishing, but it turned out to NOT be the one my friend lost! who knows how many people have bought them in other states and brought them home as pets and turned them loose when they got too hard to take care of! It's not like they can take them to the pound or give them away in the paper! I bet some of the one's being spotted are offspring from cougars that used to be "pets". and some of the other ones seen probably just wandered over from colorado. we have armadillos too, all the way from Texas!(and they're a lot slower than cougars!)
Two years ago my son and I were west bound on Maple around dusk. Just west of Colwich road a deer came out of the brush from the south. I slammed on the brakes to miss him and to slow to avoid the usual second and third deer. It wasn't another deer that followed it, though. It was a full grown mountain lion. It was gorgeous and it was HUGE!
Yes this is a true Story and there are many of these around our areas. We have seen them many times in this area and when you live on a farm they have been known to come close and get your cats and dogs. This Person that had this Photo did really See these and Got it on a Snapshot and He was a Game Warden at 1 time
Yes there are mountain lions in Kansas.... I don't care what department of wildlife says or anyone else! I have seen one with my own eyes!! I was deer hunting around 6:30 in the morning a few years ago when i heard a noise... I looked behind me and there it was walkin down the tree line about 30 yards away from me... No it wasn't a bobcat... no it wasn't any other kind of animal i'm not blind it was a mountain lion. So anyone that doesn't believe that's their choice i know what i saw!!! Are there alot of them prolly not, but there are some end of story
I saw one over by Gueda Springs a few years ago. No one believed me, but I know what I saw. At least I THINK I know what I saw. LOL
I believe there are big cats in KS. Like the previous posts state, they are all around us, but not here? I have seen two with my own eyes, and know quite a few people who have also seen them. KDWP does need to get real, we are not stupid!
Nobody is disputing the pictures are bogus. Yes, they were not taken in Kansas, But, go into the flinthills where there are cattle, deer what-have-you and you could see a big cat. Not bobcat, those are a dime-a-dozen around here. But I can tell the difference between bobcat and cougar. And when you are out there in the pastures working cattle, looking after cattle, who is going to have a camera to take a picture? I have seen one of these big cats. So yes, there might not be alot of them around, but we do have them in Kansas.
I thought they knew better than to cross the Coloradro border. Those silly cats. Can't they read?
this picture was taken outside of Omaha Nebraska not mulvane
Bob Cats
They are in Neb. Ok. Mo. and Co. but not in Ks. With a large Deer population. KDWP needs to get real about this.
I received this picture several weeks ago and right away you can tell that this is not in the state of KS, if you notice the long needled pine tree on the left side of the picture for those that do not know long needled pines do not grow in KS. I do believe these big cats are in KS but this picture was not taken in KS.
My daughter and her family lived 3 miles north of Augusta. They and others living there have seen cougars and their tracks. They had them in their back yard! Deer came to drink at their pond and couger tracks were seen there also. The kids could not go out after dark without the dogs with them. They ARE here in Kansas. My cousin has seen them on his farm 15 miles south of Anthony for years.
FYI.... The pictures that someone claim to be from a trail camera in Mulvane....They are not. Check out this article from Outdoor Life Magazine. Try the black hills of South Dakota, and you might get closer. Click on "Next" above the picture to see more photos. We do not have vegetation such as the trees shown in some of the pictures unless someone has planted it. http://www.outdoorlife.com/article_gallery/Mountain-Lions-Feast-On-Deer-Kill
