As temperatures rise, so does juvenile crime. Police see more teen-agers committing crimes during the summer months because kids are out of school.

To keep your kids out of trouble, there are a few places where you should and shouldn't let your kids hang out.

The mall is always a popular place for teens. Wichita Police Lt. Jeff Easter says, "it's more of a monitored area and there is security there so there's not as many problems."

Theaters and teen centers are also safe places to let your kids hang out. The Eclipse Teen Center is located at 552 West Douglas. Drinking and smoking are not allowed and kids wearing gang colors are turned away at the door.

Police say they see the most juvenile crime in parking lots or back streets where kids congregate. There's a lot of drinking alcohol, drunk driving and fights. House parties, when the parents are out of town, are another hot spot for juvenile crime. Most larceny problems we see are apartment complexes and auto theft problems are at apartment complexes as well.

Easter says he's seen many good kids get into big trouble just by being at the wrong place and the wrong time and that it's essential for parents to know where their kids are hanging out.
