The Kansas Bankers Association handed Diane Schrag of Newton a reward check for her help in foiling a bank robber.

"It's nice to be recognized, but I think it's something everybody should do to help the community," said Scrag Tuesday afternoon.

The robbery happened in October. Schrag stopped in the Newton Dillons Store to buy some bananas. She waived at the ladies in the bank, but they didn't wave back.

That's when she knew something was wrong. Schrag then saw a truck speeding through the parking lot. She gave police a description. Officers chased the man and arrested him. He's been charged in the Newton bank robbery and two others in Wichita.

The Bankers Association gives reward money up to $5,000 to citizens who help in the arrest of bank robbers.
