For the past nine years Bill Bearth has been paying the Orkin Company $127 a year to keep his home termite free. His contract with the company guarantees they will come back and spray if the termites ever come back.
Every year, Bearth sees more and more termite damage. Repairs will cost him thousands. Bearth says Orkin is doing something wrong and is responsible for the damage.
Sedgwick County Extension Office pest specialist Denise Dias says Bearth has done the right thing by getting a warranty. She says homeowners need to make sure the company they hire sticks to their warranty.
Orkin stands by its work. A spokeswoman for the company says Bearth is causing the problem. She says the insecticide fails every year because Bearth tills the soil around his house. She says the company will educate Bearth on how important it is leave treated ground undisturbed.
