Attorney General Steve Six warned Kansans Tuesday to be wary of a scam using the name of the AMBER Alert program to defraud consumers over the phone.

The caller claims that they are raising money to upgrade the Amber Alert program and donations can be made by cash, credit card or check. The Kansas AMBER Alert Program is not soliciting money from the public. This is a scam.

Law enforcement in Osage County reported the scam, but it may be taking place in other parts of the state as well. The Attorney General’s Office encourages Kansans to check out charities and fund raising drives thoroughly before donating money.
