Barely 24 hours after their new home was revealed and the Extreme Makeover crews had gone, the Tutwiler family took the opportunity to let the chance of a lifetime sink in, as they settled in to their new home.
"I want to just sit down and cook a meal," said Patrick Tutwiler, who received the new home.
That's Patrick Tutwiler's first order of business as he and his family spent their first full night in their new home. It's a home thousands helped bring to life in just a week.
"It's beautiful on the inside, it's really awesome," said Jesus Martin, the Tutwiler's nephew.
"My room is way bigger than I ever thought it would be," said Jacob Tutwiler, who's Patrick's son.
After a week long vacation, the anticipation of the big reveal was almost too much for this war veteran to take, but he says years of stress seemed to melt away with three simple words... move that bus!
"I forgot the crowds," said Patrick.
"We can't thank them as much as we want to," said Martin.
While the family couldn't give away many details, they said they did get some special treats they asked designers for.
"We got a nice big bathtub," said Patrick.
For this family, the best surprise came when they saw how the show was helping their neighbors
"Not only was my family getting what they needed, but the community was getting help as well," said Patrick.
"I think it's great for us, the community, the state of Kansas," said Bob Dieho, who's a Chapman resident.
It's an experience the Tutwilers say has truly given them a second chance.
"I love them, I wish I could pay them back," said Patrick.
The Tutwilers episode is expected to air in January or February.
