Inside the classroom at Highland Park High in Topeka, Doug Wright is rebuilding his life.
Wright finished law school at age 24 and was elected Topeka mayor 10 years later.
But he ended up in prison at age 54.
Wright had pleaded guilty to a reduced list of charges after being accused of stealing from his aunt, was disbarred by the Kansas Supreme Court and sentenced to prison for a year.
Now almost 60, he is student teaching government classes and hoping to reach the students he thinks need him most.
Once Wright finishes his job at Highland Park later this month, the future is uncertain.
As much as he wants to teach, his felony convictions for theft make receiving a teacher's license far from a sure thing.
