A central Kansas couple whose dog turned up 800 miles away in Auburn, Alabama, won't have to make the long trek to retrieve it.

An Auburn couple who plan to visit relatives in El Dorado, Kansas, called Tim and Jennifer Cross after reading about the dog over the weekend.

Now the Crosses are scheduled to pick up their beagle in El Dorado Wednesday evening.

Cross last saw the dog March 28th, when he took it and the couple's other dog on a walk.

The dogs weren't on leashes during the jaunt along a tree line about a quarter-mile from their home, which is near Interstate 70.

The beagle disappeared.

The couple's best guess is that a truck driver or an Auburn University student found the dog in Kansas and adopted it.
