What an awesome story! Thank you Clearwater students for helping our veterans!
WHAT A WONDERFUL PROGRAM. I saw this news piece on WDAF FOX4 in Kansas City. Not only should we be proud of veterans, but you should be very proud of your group of students from Clearwater HS. I just lost my 82 year-old Dad on June 30th -- he was a proud Navy veteran who served at the end of WWII in Alaska on a minesweeper USS Affray. We plan to donate in my Dad's honor to this program. Another way to honor a veteran is to have a 'flag request' through your Senator. A flag is flown on your requested day over the US Capital Bldg in DC. You can also get a certificate of the memorable date. I am also very proud of my brother who was the Honor Marine carrying the USMC flag in President Nixon's second inauguration parade.
Go to http://www.jewelofthemall.com to see some great pictures taken of the group at the WWII Memorial. (Click on Honorflight Photos, and then select the pictures from Nov. 11, 2008.) The gentleman that takes them and posts them also created a great book that he sells on his sight. It is a great gift for WWII Veterans. He used to give one to all the veterans that make the trip but that number is too large for him to do that anymore.
My Dad also traveled with this group. We are very grateful to Honor Flight and all the wonderful volunteers who made the trip possible for these heroes. The support and gratitude shown to the veterans was overwhelming. A special thanks to Lucas Frickey for assisting Dad (Reid) on the trip and to the Spencers for all the arrangements they made with transportation, etc.
My Dad was one of the Vets on the trip. It's wonderful that he had this opportunity and was recognized and supported by our youth. I'm proud of him & his fellow WWII Vets! And, a special thank you to Senator Dole for joining them on this memorial trip and to Honor Flight.
Clearwater students: That was really wonderful of you to honor our WWII vets this way. To our vets, especially from WWII, a HUGE heartfelt THANK YOU :))) from this first generation American! Let FREEDOM ring!!!
