Harrah's earnings for the third quarter were down seven percent, the company's CEO announced today. The news comes as questions are being raised about the financial status of a proposed $485 million casino project near Mulvane.

Harrah's CEO said because of the weakening economy, Harrah's will continue to trim various expenses, and the company will scrutinize every dollar of capital spending.

The Mulvane project was not discussed during the morning conference call. In a followup call, a company spokesman said she would not comment on the project except to say it will not comment on marketplace rumors and speculation.

If Harrah's pulls out of the Sumner County project, the state would likely have to re-bid for a new casino developer.
