Right now it'll cost you $50 if police ticket you for illegal fireworks. But the fine could go up to $500. A special fireworks council is making this recommendation to the city council. Fireworks would only be allowed June 27th to July 5th. No fireworks can be set off after 11pm. Fines are exploding. They will be from $300 to $500.

The council had a tough time coming up with its recommendation. David Penderfraft is a member of the fireworks council. He says "people are complaining and they fell like they're not getting any satisfaction. How come my neighbor can shoot these big old ground boosters at two in the morning? That's really where some of the upset people are coming from."

"As long as people continue to bring illegal fireworks in to the city, we're going to have this problem," says another council member Yvonne Lewis. "But if they are caught and fined, the message may get around."

The Wichita City Council will most likely make a decision on the new recommendations in two weeks.
